Cynthia's book: I could have married . . . .

Oh, Miz Cynthia, what a great theme for an altered book! I am going to share the photos I snapped while your book visited me - showing everyone's work in this exchange except for Linda Bean's. Cynthia's book should be in her mailbox anyday now . . . Linda will add her magic and then send it home to Cynthia - wow!! Can you believe we are coming to the end of this RR?? It's been great : )

Lenna in Ann's Divine Times

It took me some time to work in Ann's book because I had a lot of feelings about her theme -- and I love the small volume she gave us to work in. So, I ended up creating a number of spreads and was late sending this book off to Linda. So sorry, but it's on it's way! My art in Ann's book reflects our emails, friendship, the time we spent together when I flew out to California to visit her in 2003, and our silliness that just seems to manifest when we are together ; > )

I just could not help but think of the 'Divine Times' I have had with Ann over the years, whether this happened on the phone, via an abundance of emails, when we were creating collaborative art books together -or when I was spending time with her in her artist's studio making Pomegranate Chicken, drinking wine and watching silly old movies. Thank you, Ann from the bottom of my heart. here is lenna's art in Ann's book:

Pilar in Linda's Book

For Linda's extremely clever theme, chronicling the girl gumshoes of Mr. MacDonald's Private Investor Agency, I decided to my girl detective, Smarty McMillian. Smarty's case is to find out where Mrs. Sally Baker spends her Thursday evenings when she is not attending the local Women's Sewing Circle and Information Society. Not what you expect: Sally is really a gypsy and reads the cards on Thursday nights.

Page one of my spread is of Smarty. Page two includes the case file and story, hidden away in the folds of a pocket.

Ann's Divine Times

Ann Peterson's cover
Yesterday I received Ann Peterson's book, which she has titled: Divine Times, to work in. What a divine little book and it really is "little". The book measures in at only about 3" x 4" -wow! Ann found this book at the friends of the San Francisco Library Book sale and has started us off with her glorious work in sepia tones. Her theme is the divine times that can be found in one's life. Here is Ann's Cover, inside cover, sign in page, and 3 spreads that Ann created - click on any picture for more detail and a much larger scan.

Pilar in Cynthia's AB: I Could Have Married....

Cynthia has a wonderful theme for her altered book: I Could Have Married.... Oh, the possibilities are endless! I decided to pay homage to the Revolutionary incorporating two of revolutionaries of the past, Che Guevara and Gen. Zapata. My modern day revolutionaries are portrayed by members of the band, Rage Against The Machine.

Pilar's Rockin' Book

I have Pilar's ROCK STAR themed Altered Book here at my house now. Today I've been partying, gettin down, spinnin the tunes that Shauna sent tucked in-between 2 pages of the book (great CD, shauna!) and doin' some art in Pilar's book. What fun. Sure beats packing for my upcoming move! We will be closing on both houses Sept. 14th, if all goes well, and we should be in our new digs by the 15th . . . I will get you my new address shauna, don't worry!

Below is the Sign-In page Pilar set up - I love it! I added a ticket to a concert as a tag, signed my name on the back and called myself a "groupie". Click on any photo for more detail.

Pilar's intro & first page, below, come next. I thought you might like to see her pages as a "spread".

below, another awesome spread by Pilar. I love her art! Click on it for more detail.

Miz Shauna Palmer is up next in Pilar's book, rock star that she is! Look at what she has done, wow!

And another fabulous spread from Shauna:

I started my spreads in Pilar's book by using Pearl Harbor & the Explosions - a late 70's wave band. For all of my spreads, I dug out old record covers, reduced & photocopied them.
Below shows the unfolded review I found about Pearl Harbor, copied and attached:

Bonnie Raitt is my all-time favorite musician and rocker and I had to include her in Pilar's book. I have been to more performances by her than any other artist. I found some song lyrics online and used a copy of one of my concert tickets to complete the spread. She rocks!
Last spread; this one has a door. From Eric Clapton . . . .

. . . To Eddie Money: "I wanna be a rock and roll star" . . . .
That's it! enjoy! lenna

Shauna in Pilar's ROCK STAR book

Shauna sent me a scan of a spread she did in Pilar's book:

- and wrote, "Pilar's fun Rock Star book is kicking it's way down the highway to Lenna even as we speak. It should be there Weds..."

Coolio! Thanks, Shauna!

Lenna's art in Shauna's yummy book!

Here is my spread in Shauna's book. I wish I would have had the time to do another spread, but I simply did not! Our house went on the market on Monday and we have an offer already, 2 days later! It's been very busy here. Today was the 15th and so I just packed the book up, sadly saying goodbye, and sent it off to Ms. Bean in New Jersey, who will do wonders with it I am sure. I sent Priority mail, Delivery confirmation included so you should see this book in your mailbox soon Ms. Linda! let me know when it arrives, please.

For the left hand page, I used a piece of upholstery fabric that Shauna had sent along with her book. I sewed an Alpha Stamps image (bird - Paris) onto the fabric first, then sewed and glued the pink eyelash trim around the edge. I also sewed a little beaded trim along the bottom that dangles out of the book. This is a french book, so I could not help adding the 'paris' image. There is also some sheer stamped ribbon sewn on to the bottom of the fabric.

On the right side I started drawing with my aquacolor crayons and then used a wet brush to activate the colors. When the water color dried, I used a round paper punch to punch out sections of the page and then glue them in different places on the page. I like the little windows this made to other pages below.

I did sign a tag in the back of the book, Shauna -- and I also decorated one of the little round tags - you may be able to see it there on the right side. Click on the scan for more detail - and let me know how you are all doing, thanks!
