About this 2007-2008 AB Round Robin

This blog is about six artists/friends who worked together creating art in discarded books. I first started altering books in 2001. Shauna Palmer asked me (lenna) to join a Altered Book Round Robin she was hosting through the art-e-zine website. I participated for a number of years with various artists and then took a break. In 2007 we connected again wanting to work with artists we had worked with previously. This blog shares our adventures working in each other's books. Pilar uploaded her work, but most of the time I did the uploading for the group here when I received the books going through their rotations. As the hostess. I couldn't help but share the wonderful altered art!

How this Round Robin got started

May 26th, 2007:

"Dear Pilar, Ann & Shauna! I just heard from Pilar and I am very excited that you all would love to do an altered book RR! Wow. I think it was just a week ago that I saw Shauna’s message on the art-e-zine yahoo group. When I replied to Shauna, I did not have this idea in mind . . . it just kind of came out as we were talking about what we were doing art-wise these days . . . ."

. . . and that's how this project got started. We added Cynthia & Linda to our group - wowza! : )) I am so happy to be hosting this Round Robin! Lenna, June 24, 2007

Altered Books Revisited

Each artist will pick a book (not too big) and theme
Theme: Some sort of theme for your book is so wonderful and helps everyone to come up with ideas for your book.
Specs for the book: A small to medium size book that fits inside a Flat Rate Priority Mail Envelope
Sign-In pages are always lovely, I think, but it’s up to each artist!
Spreads: have a goal of doing 2 spreads in each book (or 4 single pages) – whichever you like best. Think: 1 spread (or 2 pages) minimum and 3 - 4 spreads (or 6 - 8 pages) maximum
Do’s & Don’ts: If you have ANYTHING, absolutely anything, you do not want to see in your book, I would suggest leaving a note inside your book where everyone will see it & read it
We begin mailing on July 15th and mail once a month, for 6 months
Mailing List: ** Lenna to Linda ** Linda to Cynthia ** Cynthia to Ann ** Ann to Pilar ** Pilar to Shauna ** and Shauna to Lenna **
Hopefully everyone will be able to upload their art here as we move through the Round Robin . . . if not, I will scan pages as the books pass through my hands : ^ )
